There’s a lot of stress out there in the cryptocurrency world right now but you probably don’t need me to tell you that. Like the rest of us, you likely live on social media and consume as much cryptocurrency content as possible. That means you’ve seen the uptick in bickering and sniping and maybe even participated a bit yourself. Don’t feel too guilty—I’ve succumbed to it too.
It’s not surprising that a sharp decline in cryptocurrency prices has an emotional toll. Our community has put everything it has into fostering the growth of these technologies so losing the thrill of short-lived validation can be hard. Even so, treating everything like an attack and being a jerk online is probably not the best way to deal with it.
Here’s an alternative: try finding a role in cryptocurrency that isn’t price centric. Or better yet, try to remember why you got into this in the first place. Short-term price movements are a distraction. You’re part of an experiment in developing the next generation of internet infrastructure—the key word there being experiment. It’s going to be messy and there’s no telling how this will end up going. Cryptocurrency might work, and if it does it’s going to be important.
Stay focused on what excites you about this technology, use it as a conduit for learning, meet smart people, and enjoy the constant hilarious moments this community creates. Oh, and I know this may sound a bit odd coming from me but maybe try logging off every now and then too.
