Ethereum’s next system-wide upgrade, Eth 2.0, won’t launch in Q2 2020 as expected, but researchers remain confident the initial network parameters will deploy in 2020. Anything less would be considered a “failure,” they said.
I'm cautiously optimistic, and also appreciative of the fact that these developers are putting in a tremendous amount of extreme complex work, while all I've done is contributed a few dollars, which I've already been handsomely rewarded for.

you do not need to worry, they are not rushing anyway.
Phase 0: proof of stake on a separate chain. You can burn ETH on the old chain and get it on the PoS chain.
Phase 1: new chain gets 64 shards, each as big as all of ETH1 but all it does is store data.
Phase 1.5: ETH1 turns into a shard of ETH2 and can access all the data on the 64 shards. Capacity of rollups goes from 2500 tx/sec to hundreds of thousands.
Phase 2: Shards get full contract execution.
64 is the initial number of shards but it can be increased as needed up to 1024.
Casper was supposed to be here years ago. I understand that it is tough and new but eventually if a dev team habitually fails to meet deadlines you have to ask yourself why? I think it is good for the community to put some pressure and expectations on the team to deliver on the promises made.
Certainly, but they need to be realistic with what they they say and put out to the public. After a certain point they need to deliver or adjust the timeframes. It isn't like there have been a few months of delays here and there, we are talking about multiple year long delays on key components of the project.
Posting to set the record straight. PoS was absolutely planned 2017 and "could be launched in a few weeks if ASICS miners became a problem" in early to mid 2018.
So while Peg is getting downvoted for god knows why, its not a wrong statement. (And no, I don't care about Karma specifically I just hate people getting the wrong idea and think its downvoted so must be wrong info)
Official plans actually, then it was pushed to 18 when they couldn't get istanbul and constantinople done (one a year later the other two), then totally re started by ditching casper and they said deposit contract would be in oct 2019, now "95% sure" it will get a deposit contract in 2020 meaning actual full 2.0 will be 2024.
They should take all the time they need, but the foundation REALLY needs to hire a project management firm.
Nope, as I understand it you’ll be able to send ETH 1 -> ETH 2 if you want to get in early, but the plan is for ETH 1 to become a shard of ETH 2 and work seamlessly with no action required by users who may be inactive.
I think theyll hit phase 0 around that time, probably later like august or sept but that isnt what worries me. What worries me is how long it will take for phase 1 and 2 to come to fruition. I plan on staking but I am uncomfortable with essentially locking my coins up for what could potentially be 3-4 years if the development cycle is drawn out.
