Imagine this company giving a talk about this brilliant idea...
Presenter: "I hope you have enjoyed my presentation today on buttbook, where your data is controlled and secured by a decentralized network, finally freeing you from the influence and manipulation of Facebook and Google. Any questions?"
Audience member: "Why does it need to be decentralized? How about just not storing the data?"
Presenter: "Well you see the reason that doesn't work is quite simple... ummm.. Well what you didn't consider is that...ehhhh" *presenter slowly walks off the stage in shame*
So obviously you don't want to share your data publically on the blockchain, so what we'll do is we'll have our own private secure blockchain that you can access but we host it on our own private servers and give you access to it through some sort of web front\-end, then to pay for the servers we'll let people advertise to you using the data you gave us to be super precise targeted advertising. Another problem solved with the blockchain Guys.
I'm thinking we need to implement some kind of database on top of the blockchain. Something like mongodb. That will solve our storage needs. We also need a webscale and safe language, with zero cost abstractions. This language must be native to the blockchain, rust or typescript isn't good enough. I'm thinking more in the lines of a EDSL in Haskell. Then we get the typesafety we need, along with the blazing performance of a compiled language.
The biggest problem I see is the GDPR. We should need to run some kind of AI in order to be compliant. We must also make sure we can remove things permanently from the blockchain, as stated in the GDPR. Some neural networks and we should be done.
Speaking of, using hashing when constructing the blockchain seems to be a bit 1995. Can't we do POW with neural networks, or at least modern big data techniques, so that we can use our computing power for good? With great hashing comes great responsibility.
