RT @jarradhope: So many amazing people have believed in Status and have worked tirelessly to create not just a private, secure, p2p messenger, not just a wallet, or even just a dapp browser, but a super-app for the crypto-native. Today is a good day, thank-you @ethstatushttps://t.co/RAUwdhdK8q
RT @SCBuergel: Our friends at Status reached an important milestone towards building a decentralized and #PrivacyFirst ecosystem for Ethereum-based dapps. This is their v1 release 👏

The app browser is amazing! I can see all the balances of my DAI in dsr on the oasis app as well as my cdp info. I can see everything I have in compound, I can see my unusual liquidity pool updates. Loving it.
How is the "gas" paid for? Seems like there has to be a cost associated with sending/storing a message or it's rife for abuse. I'm sitting here messaging my friend and talking in #support without having added any SNT. What's stopping me from sending 10 million spam messages?
Kinda lame that they're funneling people into 20-SNT custom ENS names rather than simply allowing users to label contacts. I don't want to have to remember which of my friends is Horny Muscled Unicorn. Hope they sincerely intend to allow simple labels at some point.
Yes we will allow you to rename your contacts at some point in the future, it's just a feature we didn't had time to develop. ENS usernames are different, they showup even in public chat. Since the app is p2p with no central server to manage names, it's a contract on the blockchain.
But if your friend got "Horny Muscled Unicorn" then I wouldn't change it that's a freaking awesome name :D Names are generated from the public key, they are deterministic.
Messages aren't on-chain, they are using whisper, more info here [https://github.com/status-im/specs/blob/master/status-whisper-usage-spec.md](https://github.com/status-im/specs/blob/master/status-whisper-usage-spec.md)
What kind of phone are you running it on? So far we actually got lots of praises because it is fast and responsive.
Maybe you are just talking about the specific moment when you join a huge chat like #status with hundreds of messages in the last hours, in which case yes there is some room for improvement and we are working on it. But note that the tremors in the scrolling while messages are being added to the history are just due to the fact that they are inserted in the right place after being decrypted.
A newer phone, but you are correct that it was on joining the larger chat rooms. The rest of the app does feel pretty responsive and I loved the onboarding illustrations!
EDIT: some feedback: things like clicking away from the keyboard and the chat snaps back to full size instead of growing as the keyboard dismisses make it feel clunky. These little things add up!
thanks for the feedback, please do not hesitate to report these bugs by either shaking your phone or posting on our github!
you can use SNT to get a username, otherwise the username is random based on your public key because there is no servers it's p2p. The ens name registration matches your public key, wallet address and name on-chain. Later it will also let you associate an image with it. You can buy sticker packs. There is also the teller network which similar to local-ethereum. You can stake on dapp.s and there is many other use cases to come like SNT reactions and tribute to talk. But the core of the app is anonymous, free and very respectful of privacy. The app doesn't share any data even for logs with us.
