The Bitcoin Lightning Network has reached an important milestone this week and, for the first time ever, its capacity went over 600 BTC (around $2 million USD). According to data from 1ML.com, a monitoring site, the LN was able to process 600 BTC early today, January 30. While yesterday was also a very good day for the scaling solution, as its capacity grew a lot, over 21 BTC in 24 hours. At the moment, the full capacity of the Bitcoin Lightning Network is around 601 BTC, 15% more than a month ago. This is not the only metric which was vastly improved, though. The total node count now equals 5768 nodes in total, a 16% rise, which is coherent with the increase in the BTC capacity. However, the number of channels grew exponentially more, we got 22,750 channels today, an increase of 36%. Part of the improvement can certainly be credited to the Lightning Torch project, which was an ongoing awareness campaign in which the users would increase the size of the network.
