President Trump told Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin to clamp down on the trading and selling of the internet currency Bitcoin, according to John Bolton's book about his time in the Trump administration.
The PDF has been leaked, and there's a good .mobi on libgen. Here is the entire crypto-related content of the book:
Not only was his outsized role institutionally unusual, Mnuchin’s pro-China, zeal-for-the-deal approach was substantively dangerous. From time to time, even Trump saw this. At one Roosevelt Room session, on May 22, Trump all but yelled at Mnuchin, “Don’t be a trade negotiator. Go after Bitcoin [for fraud].” Mnuchin, also all but yelling, said, “If you don’t want me on trade, fine, your economic team will execute whatever you want.”

He is skeptical of whether or not it can be of financial use to him.
Once someone explains to trump that its easy to scam gullible idiots outta money by launching a coin/project, he will launch his own coin and tell all his moron acolytes to buy it up and be rich like him!

What if FBAR filing requirements were added to crypto. FBAR is Foreign Bank Account Reporting.
It's the same shitshow every time a former gov official releases a book. All this controversy makes for good sales. It will never be proved or disproved. Bla bla anonymous sources bla bla.
People are so fucking gullible it makes me sick.
Wake the fuck up people.
Really? Why would DOJ file a lawsuit to halt publication of Bolton's book on the grounds it contains classified material.
Mnuchin made his money [forging signatures on foreclosure documents](https://archive.thinkprogress.org/steve-mnuchin-onewest-e5fc28e0f285/). What makes you think he *wouldn't* go after Bitcoin?

If you publish a book (as a high ranking former official) that's peppered with untruths and half-truths rooted in actual classified material, they can't really disprove it without using the classified material.
The whole thing is a giant national security issue. Whether the material is true, false, or somewhere in-between makes no difference. It still has extremely large implications in how other governments will react to it.
It's even worse if it's plausible.
