Before CoinTracker, I was a product manager on Project Loon @ Google[x] and Jon was a software engineer at Google. We had both previously worked together on Google Now (you can read more about our backgrounds here: www.cointracker.io/about).

Now we are working on CoinTracker — a cryptocurrency portfolio manager that securely and automatically syncs your transactions and balances from top exchanges and wallets. CoinTracker supports over 2,000 cryptocurrencies and is pushing the boundaries on what users experct from a portfolio tracker.

How did you get into Crypto?

Chandan Lodha
I've casually been into crypto for a while (did a CS project in college about Bitcoin in 2012, worked on a Coinbase/Google Now integration in 2014), but got much more serious about crypto last year with the big rise in altcoins & speculation.

How and why did you launch this (token)?

Chandan Lodha
We initially started working on CoinTracker because we couldn't keep track of our own crypto investments. Even answering a basic question like what is my cost basis or how much USD have I invested into crypto was ridiculously complicated to answer. There had to be a better way. We looked around, couldn't find a good solution, so we went ahead and built one.

How did you build an early community?

Initially it was just the two of us using our own tool, but then we posted on reddit, crypto forums, etc. and random people started using our product and loving it. Word of mouth has been huge for us. I think the turning point for me was when I got an email from a Spa company in Bangkok asking why I hadn't built a specific feature and I thought to myself, "OK — we are on to something."

What are the biggest challenges you’ve faced and obstacles you’ve overcome? If you had to start over, what would you do differently?

There are plenty of challenges all the time! Specifically for the product we are working on, it is easy for competitors to have slick marketing and drum up a lot of hype, but the actual subtleties of tracking crypto are really complicated when you get into the nitty gritty details. There are a ton of edge cases and getting it right is really important. We aren't perfect, but we have put a lot of time and thought into making this work well.

If we were to do it again, I just would have started earlier!

Have you found anything particularly helpful or advantageous?

The most helpful thing is having a strong group of users/friends around you. The better, smart, more knowledgeable people you have around, the more likely you are to succeed. We have been lucky to be a part of some awesome communities that have really supported us.
