This is the best article on coronavirus I’ve come across. It’s important to act fast and act now. Our response will determine whether we contain the pandemic or let it spiral out of control.
If this analysis is correct, then the first COVID-19 death on Tuesday in New Jersey indicates:
• He was probably infected ~Feb. 22,
• The likely number of infected in NJ right now is ~800,
• Infected population will reach ~12,800 by early April
3-4% of our country is nearly 10 million people. Not even 500k Americans died in WW2. The CDC is estimating between 200k - 2.2 million based on current projections. That's an incredible loss of life.
And we don't have near enough hospital beds and other equipment to handle that kind of crush load.
That's why people are freaking out.
I work in a salon and my clients are desperate to get in . Busier than ever and stressing what to do . It’s hard to say “ I’m not comfortable working “ when the salon is open and you’re in the service industry
Don’t worry my queen...non essential stores will hopefully be closing for the next few weeks very soon. Unfortunately this is the first modern type spread of a rapidly acting pathogen on a global scale (yes AIDS is worldwide too, points of difference: not a quick presentation of symptoms, it attacks the immune system, and transmission is different) we’re like Bambi in the headlights right now.
Just my thoughts, if you freelance at the salon and can afford the hit of seeing less clients try and do that. If you work at a franchise type salon and HAVE to appear under threat of termination unfortunately they are risking your life and many more and are unable to see past “business as usual”. Minimize contact as much as possible given that your day to day is all contact: gloves, wash your hands, don’t touch your face, try to spend as little time in front of people’s faces as you cut hair, someone could sneeze or cough or something and the thing moves though droplets and contact. Since your at such close distances, use a face mask, but again be careful about touching your face with dirty gloves...when you remove, take of gloves first, wash your hands thoroughly, then remove face mask.
I know all we have the pleasure of paying things, but we also have to be alive to do that. Hopefully this teaches us as a community that a uniform sacrifice for the health of the community in the face of viruses is more important than the individual....or haircuts
Anyway, hope you find your answer.

That is not true. I have a close friend who got tested several days ago in Alberta just because she was sick. She had not travelled out of province. Please do not spread fake news. It is dangerous and irresponsible. This is serious shit.
This is 100% true. It happened to my daughter and mother in law in Ontario.
Smaller population provinces may be testing with looser requirements but in Ontario where the virus is spreading the fastest and home to the largest international airport in Canada they are NOT testing anyone who doesn’t meet strict requirements.
Do not assume that what’s happening in Alberta is happening everywhere. It’s dangerous and irresponsible
It is not 100% true if it is happening in other places in Canada. Just because your area doesn't have their shit together doesn't mean it represents the rest of the country. Despite what they may have told you, Ontario is not all of Canada.
It’s a yes or no equation. If the government is suppressing community transmission numbers in ANY part of Canada than its 100% true they are suppressing the numbers.
Testing potential community transmission in one part of Canada doesn’t mean they aren’t still suppressing community transmission by refusing testing in the hot zone of COVID-19 in Canada.
Look, I am sorry your family is having a hard time getting tested. That must be maddening! I am just trying to point out that the provinces seem to be handling things differently. I would suspect you guys in Ontario are under a lot of pressure. Maybe their criteria are more strict because there are so many more cases and people sick. Maybe they are low on tests? We don't have as thick of a population in the prairies and our numbers are lower, so we probably have more tests still.
In anycase, I am sorry you guys are going through this. It fucking sucks for everyone. But lets do what WE can despite whatever the Govt is doing and #staythefuckhome

Thanks for posting that article. I’ve been guilty of peddling the “flatten the curve” mentality so this was an especially interesting read for me. I’d love to see some follow up articles that dive deeper into adding numbers to the curve.
