I know that the math of scaling isn't your primary focus, but your work does impact end-users quite a bit. Do you feel that blockchain will scale such that end-users will have their own synchronized blockchains? Do you envision some trust-worthy set of independent and globally distributed authorities serving blockchain requests for the average end-user? Is there a set of other options you'd like to see happen that I hadn't considered?

@CollinCusce What you mean with own synchronised blockchains? Side chains? The speed of blockchains depends the architecture not who is running it really. Though i think we will see a lot of Proof of Authority (PoA) blockchains in the future, which will be use case or industry specific. I work on a project together with my wife where we will build such a blockchain for the Fashion and Design Industry, called Lukso.io. We are also planning on selling a part of the tokens in an ICO, to allow public participation.

Scalability will happen through improved architecture and and off chain scaling, like payment and state channels. There are a few projects already that try to generalise that like TrueBit and Plasma, but each Dapp can come up with its own off chain improvements.
I hope that answers your questions.

@CollinCusce @feindura Sure helps! I meant more do you see every device having to keep copies of a blockchain on it or do you see more of a model like what Metamask does with RPC calls being the norm.

Interesting about Lukso! Is this for track and trace? Fair Trade certification? Brand authenticity?

@CollinCusce @CollinCusce Lukso will be the innovation platform that the fashion and design industry, so everything you cant yet imagine using blockchain ;) And of curse all of what you've mentioned. But full supply chain is tricky with the current scalability, so more provenance, where you certify the source of materials.

Concerning the blockchain on every device: It will be more light clients, which are able to verify the part of the blockchain they are interested in and still having almost the same security as having the full blockchain. MetaMasks and others use of remote nodes, is not good, as this is the same as the current internet. Its only a good transition solution. Since geth 1.8.0 we have a functioning light client in Ethereum, which syncs in minutes and keeps only the blockheads, which is some 200MB

@CollinCusce @feindura Thank you! Perfect!

Where do you see R_block playing a role in the future for identity? What gives you hope/confidence in its success?
2
Fabian Vogelsteller
@gdz_wzhur R_Block is a good use case for claims on identity, where companies can issue claims for former employees. If they do it right ,and I will give them some help with that, this can be a nice first example of ERC 725 and idenity on the blockchain.

Hey Fabian, I would love to hear your thoughts on R_Block? I literally just finished an AMA with Luke on my channel and I really love this project personally!

Fabian Vogelsteller
@TheGobOneCrypto I answered that somewhere down there already ;)

How did you get into crypto?
1
Fabian Vogelsteller
@bentossell I heard about "Canadian wants to sell house in bitcoin" in 2013, and thats what got me hooked. Since then I followed all the altcoin evolution, and started building things in this space, as I joined the Ethereum project in January 2015. Since then i've build the initial Mist Browser, the Ethereum Wallet, helped shape the RPC API, work on web3.js, initiated the ERC 20 token standard with vitalik's draft, talk a lot on stages, and recently initiated ERC 725 a possible blockchain identity standard.

What is your advice for evaluating crypto investment opportunities?
1
Fabian Vogelsteller
@bentossell Look what how the token model works, thats key to success, plus the team behind it.
I would recommend investing in new Blockchains, as boring as this sounds, as this token model is clear and working. Every blockchain needs a token as accounting system and spam protection. Newer token models, especially ERC 20 still need to be proven :)
I think if you can replace the token with Ether it might not be such a useful token. But if the token has functionality, or requirements that Ether can't do, like minting or halving then it might be a good idea.
But on the end always make your own choice based on good due-diligence, I am not a Investment advisor ;)

What's ERC-725?
1
Fabian Vogelsteller
@GeorgeBennettGB ERC 725 is a smart contract interface standard for a blockchain identity. It defines a smart contract, that represents a person, object, company or robot/thing. If we standard use that then your identity can be loaded into many apps to maintain it, while other smart contracts or apps/people can verify who an identity is.

Which ERC-725 use cases are you most excited about in 2018?
1
Fabian Vogelsteller
@GeorgeBennettGB Now we are seeing almost all ICOs requiring a KYC, which takes away the ease and simpleness of the whole process we've seen in the years before. When one of KYC processors will issue an ERC 725 identity to the ones making the process, it could be reused for the next ICO and the participation can again be super automated! There a re a few like trustfractal.com who are thinking about this already.

Your an advisor to R_Block. How did that come about?
1
Fabian Vogelsteller
@GeorgeBennettGB They contacted me and I went through some ideas on how the project can be set up. Luke then asked me to give them some help along the way. As they want to help improving the ERC 725 standard I am happy to help when I can. I also get some CVT tokens for my help.

Luke ShiplΞy
Hey Fabian, can you give an overview where you are with the LUKSO project? It sounds interesting, what's your role and timelines for this new venture?
1
Fabian Vogelsteller
@Shiperlay Lukso will be an industry specific consortium blockchain, public, but permissioned. This means everybody will be able to very the blockchain, but the blocks will be created by brands and startups from the consortium.
It will be for the fashion and design industry to build use cases in the space. We are currently working on the public ICO, to allow the public to participate and benefit from the potential success of this network. In the next weeks we will bring up more information on Lukso.io.

The timeline is to bring consortium members in, after the public ICO and the build out use cases like Lukso ONE with specific brands over the next 2 years. Lukso ONE will be the authentication of high valuable goods on the blockchain, to prevent counterfeiting.

Some more information will come out over the next months. Just follow @lukso_io on twitter.

Fabian, what's the most challenging thing about developing a Dapp as opposed building a centralized app? Does anything come easier?

Where do you see the future of data ownership and identity ? What do you think might be beyond that horizon in terms of digital assets / evolution of blockchain?
0
Fabian Vogelsteller
@gdz_wzhur Good question. I would say data ownership will get a lot more transparent, and control will go to the parties owning and producing the data. Blockchain and cryptography can make that possible. For Identity I hope we see a lot of fun experimentation with claims. I would actually like to see some gamer identities and virtual item ownership attached to identity and less crucial and regulated things first. We need to figure out what works and what doesn't.

In terms of the future we didn't event touched the potential of blockchain yet, tokens is not the end of the road, its just a first good working use case. Identify will be another building block and then maybe a few other i cant see right now. But with these building blocks we will see far more sophisticated use cases and business models in the decentralised space.
