There are quite a few portfolio management apps out there now... what do you think makes Delta successful?
1
Nicolas Van Hoorde
@bentossell I think Delta has been successful due to a combination of a good product & transparent, honest communication toward the cryptocurrency community. We've been humble from the start, listening to the users' feedback while still maintaining our own idea about doing things a certain way. We like to lead by example.

Am I too late? Anyway, if you're still around to answer, Nicolas, here are my two questions:
- What are the average costs for running a service like Delta?
- And how do you plan to to make revenue? What's the business model for the app?
1
Nicolas Van Hoorde
@brunohq Hi there! Running costs is hard to share, but it's basically the sum of wages, server & hosting costs, offices, PR & marketing.

Regarding the business model. We have a Delta PRO subscription on top of Delta. It has three features at the moment and is pushed a very non aggressive way. We also don't do any ads, promote any ICO or sell/analyse user data. It's purely the freemium model & super transparent.

Eric Pelnik
What's been the hardest part of building a product for such a young market?
0
Nicolas Van Hoorde
@pelnike Since cryptocurrency is so young, there's a good mix of experienced traders & less experienced traders on Delta. It's a fine balance to cater to these types of people. We want to be very feature rich, but not so overly that it becomes very difficult for a new users to find her or his way.

What features are you looking to add in the future?
0
Nicolas Van Hoorde
@pelnike Well, we just launched two major milestones. Our desktop beta version & Exchange Account Connections on mobile. Naturally, that's not where it ends. The next steps is stuff like CSV imports, but also data portability: export of your transactions, snapshots to go back in time. We also want to keep improving the aesthetic part of the app, so yes, a dark mode is not super far away. And yes, we'll look into adding more icons. ;)

Why can we see charts and orders in the mobile app? That's the only feature that stops me from leaving Blockfolio
0
Nicolas Van Hoorde
@sourcex44 Well, charts should already be available in the app for most of the coins we support. Regarding the order books, you're right; we don't have that feature. Yet. The plans & designs are ready, we just need to start working on it once we clear some other urgent features.

Hello everyone! Let's do this! :)

Where do you see Delta being a year from now? Any plans to go past its current state?
0
Nicolas Van Hoorde
@michaelbrne It should definitely be past its current state! We're around for five months now and there's a huge difference between Delta 1.0 & the current Delta 1.6. We improve, iterate & innovate constantly and we have no intention to stop doing this. The market will evolve and so will Delta with it.

Michael Brune-Waelser
@michaelbrne @NicolasVH very cool. I also just found out there was a macOS version. I'll be downloading it right now. I've only been using the iPhone app. I really like it so far. All the best.

What does the future look like -- a million cryptocurrencies or only a handful survive?
0
Nicolas Van Hoorde
@soonaorlater A bit of both. A million cryptocurrencies is maybe a bit of a stretch, but there will be new ones popping up constantly. That being said, I feel like only a few will actually get used within their destined economy & thus survive in the long run.

Something you wish people paid more attention to in this space:
0
Nicolas Van Hoorde
@soonaorlater Security. People should really be fully aware of what they're sharing with who. For Delta specifically, it's also why we try to protect the user ourselves. We don't accept API keys that have an access level which is greater than 'read only'.

Michael Brune-Waelser
What do you think about the current state of security in the cryptocurrency space?
0
Nicolas Van Hoorde
@michaelbrne I'm definitely not a security expert, but from my point of view, it feels like there's still a long way to go.

If you weren't building this what would you be building?
0
Nicolas Van Hoorde
@bentossell Very probably something else in the cryptocurrency space. It's just so exciting & still so full of market opportunities. Without wanting to sound harsh; the product quality bar isn't high enough yet in this young space, so even for existing stuff, I often think: we could probably build something cooler & better. :)

Nawar Nory
Nicholas, for the developers who like to see information in the terminal, would you have a companion CMD tool like https://github.com/bichenkk/coinmon which can provide that information?
0
Nicolas Van Hoorde
@NawarNory Would need to check that with the more tech savvy guys here at Delta, I'll keep you posted!

Right now we are can only use daily or all time percentages. I've seen on a screen shot that there will be weekly and hourly too. Will this be available in the next update?
0
Nicolas Van Hoorde
@ukeboyd Not the next update, but it's definitely something we want to add probably in the update after that. Also: you have a good eye, noticing that on our mocks! ;)

Erik Torenberg
what's something you've changed your mind about in the last 6 months in the space
0
Nicolas Van Hoorde
@eriktorenberg Always thought red didn't suit me well. A new sweatshirt proved me wrong!
2
Erik Torenberg
How do you describe the competitive landscape and where do ya'll fit in?
0
Nicolas Van Hoorde
@eriktorenberg Well, when we first started Delta, there were very little competitors. Blockfolio was thé app. Everybody used it, including us.

By the time we launched Delta, the situation was quite similar. It was either Delta or Blockfolio. But there were already some creators saying they were working on some stuff. And then a few months after Delta's launch, we noticed a new portfolio tracking app was being launched almost every week. It's still happening actually!

So yes, the portfolio tracking app space is highly competitive right now. And to be honest: there are some good ones out there. But we still believe that if you want the broadest, best feature set, while still enjoying a fluent UX with good design, then Delta is the best & only solution.
