What sparked your interest in cryptocurrency?

@oscruv DOGECOIN BABYYYY.. Seriously though, Dogecoin got me interested in cryptocurrency back in December of 2013. One of my buddies sent me an article at work and was like look at this. And that night I found a YouTube video on how to set up a Dogecoin miner on a windows PC.

I thought the idea of "printing money" on a laptop was literally the coolest thing on the planet. And so I started mining Dogecoin on my GPU and I bought a few of the old USB ASIC bitcoin miners and would run them 24/7. That's pretty much what got me interested in it, mining, although I haven't touched mining in like 3 years.

Crypto Bobby
@oscruv Also, at the time I got interested in cryptocurrency, I was getting my Masters degree in Information Systems, so I was trying to dive into as much tech as possible. I was experimenting with a bunch of different topics and blockchain topics really resonated with me for whatever reason.

What's something you've changed your mind about in the last 6 months?
2
Crypto Bobby
@eriktorenberg There were points in the past where I was less bullish on Bitcoin because it's the grand daddy and it's not as sexy as many of the newer, hotter cryptocurrencies, but I've moved away from that thought process. I'm as bullish on Bitcoin as ever when considering Segwit adoption and the rapid advancements with the lightning network

What do you think about the importance and future of privacy coins?
2
Crypto Bobby
@eriktorenberg I think privacy will be massive moving forward. Many people pose the question, "But the government hates privacy, won't they just shutdown Monero or ZCash," but I think that's easier said than done.

As long as you can acquire BTC or ETH, there is likely somewhere you can exchange that to XMR or ZEC. So unless the government goes after every single exchange with a Monero trading pair internationally, you could still likely access Monero and be fine.

Have you seen interest in crypto wane in the past few months when crypto markets have been steadily declining?
1
Crypto Bobby
@Tommy-Ch I've definitely seen interest wane significantly, although that's in comparison to the bull run period of December to mid-January.. If you're comparing it to back in August or September, we still have more interest than previously.

However, my YouTube channel as a whole has seen a solid downtrend in video views, comments, likes, etc since mid-January. I'm not too worried about that though personally.

Who are your top 5 unorthodox crypto-twitter favorites?
1
Crypto Bobby
@percussivetouch Hmmm, that's a good one... Honestly, I'm a sucker for a good shitpost. Sometimes I love the super intellectual threads, but other times I just want someone to create tweets that'll make me laugh and benefit my mood. I think a few of these folks are solid and slightly under the radar.

You were early in calling out Bitconnect.

What are:

1) Projects you're dubious of in the space
2) Projects you're excited about
1
Crypto Bobby
@soonaorlater f*ck Bitconnect (am I allowed to say that here?)

1. Any project that hypes up there own price and cares more about the price of their own token, rather than actually developing technology. There are a ton of projects like this, but I've been critical recently of Tron, Verge ($2.7 million from your community, really?!).. Also Titanium (Ticker symbol BAR) had a whitepaper that was soooo light on details, yet because they had some people shilling it on YouTube, it saw some decent price appreciation.... Until they got hacked and had to fork to save their own money.

2. I'm excited about seeing how Bitcoin and Ethereum can both scale. They're really the only projects that have actually run into availability issues yet because people actually use them, so it should interesting to see if they can both scale quick enough to beat out the "next Bitcoin" or the "next Ethereum" that think they have superior tech..
I'm also really interested in privacy with Monero, ZCash, mimblewimble, zksnarks, etc. And peer-to-peer or decentralized trading is pretty sweet.

I love buffalo chicken dip, but not a huge fan of buffchic pizza. Can you change my mind?
1
Crypto Bobby
@zackvoell I've tried to brew beer once in my life, bought some crappy beer brewing kit back in college.. It tasted like flatter, worse version of Keystone Lite.. So now I just brew beer the old fashioned way, by buying it at the liquor store
2
Crypto Bobby
@zackvoell Funny because buffalo chicken dip is usually my least favorite type of buffalo chicken.. Buffchic pizza can be dope, but it can also be pretty nasty depending upon how good the pizzeria is.

My go-to remains the Buffalo Chicken Wrap, it's undefeated
1
Crypto Bobby
@zackvoell Outside of buffalo chicken wraps.. I like rye whiskey, good beer and long walks on the beach in case you were wondering
1
Zack Voell
@zackvoell @crypto_bobby The old fashioned ways are often better, but brewing is a blast. (Also, not sure what I did to my previous comment...SOS @soonaorlater). Anyway, thanks for chatting!
1
Zack Voell
@zackvoell @crypto_bobby Really? Interesting. Wraps are delicious, no disagreement there!

Do you have any maximalist leanings toward a particular coin or platform, or do you take a more ambivalent or agnostic position?
1
Crypto Bobby
@zackvoell I try not to be a maximalist when it comes to anything, I think doing so shuts you off to potentially great opportunities. I try to be as open minded as possible, although I'll admit I also hate certain scammy coins. So I suppose I'm selectively open-minded.

I would say that I have a decent amount of loyalty to Bitcoin and Ethereum though, and I think that all the people saying they are the next Bitcoin or Ethereum really need to prove that. There are a ton of empty promises and BS permeating through the blockchain world and I'm usually skeptical of such claims.

StoreOfValue Blog
What is one opinion that you hold that people will generally disagree with? (bonus points if it's crypto related)
1
Crypto Bobby
@SovCryptoBlog I think that the Jets will be better than the Giants this year...

Crypto related? I think my overall view on regulation is something people disagree with. I think the view that "We need to fight regulation at all costs." isn't going to get us anywhere, and we need to try to embrace thoughtful regulation, otherwise we'll be screwed. I think creating a new regulatory framework for cryptoassets, not trying to fit crypto into existing regulations would be massively beneficial.

Hey Crypto Bobby, hats off to you on all the great videos. I have noticed that the aspect of decentralization and centralization has somewhat merged together to form most of these ICO's. While the structure is somewhat decentralized the overall hosting of the crypto is centralized. Do you see the combination of decentarlized and centralized aspects of the cryptocurrency to be a benefit to the space? People are always looking for that "Awesome" team. And a Team is a centralized aspect of a given crypto. Your thoughts would be appriciated.
1
Crypto Bobby
@ethereal_ai I agree, great points. There are very few "fully decentralized" projects out there. Bitcoin and Monero are two good examples. Many other projects and ICOs aren't truly decentralized, from a tech standpoint or team standpoint.

My big belief has always been the people care significantly more about user experience over decentralization, and until the UX of decentralization products is equal to or greater than centralized services, adoption will be slow.

Let's say i have some documents , i will like to share with you how can i do that?

@Sergio-Duclona I only accept personal passports, Social Security numbers and potentially a birth certificate.. Sound good :)

Peter Lindstedt
Hi, thx for an awesome channel on Youtube, you were the first person I subscribed to in the industry.
- If a person bought in at both the December ATH and Januari ATH, is there any good advice?
It will probably take a year of HODLING to go breakeven. DCA is an idea, but do you have other tips?
Thx
1
Crypto Bobby
@SWE_Lindstedt That's tough because there is a good chance you're down anywhere from 60-80%, which is damn difficult to come back from. I suppose you have to make a decision as to whether you'll just hold and ride it out, and DCA in a bit more.. Or start trying to trade the market if you have that level of experience.

how has your life changed since your guest appearance on John Oliver?
1
Crypto Bobby
@soonaorlater I only fly first class, take Uber black everywhere I go, added "Featured on John Oliver" as a byline for my business card and generally speaking have an inflated sense of self confidence. It's been fantastic

@soonaorlater @crypto_bobby haha i knew it!

Neil Deramchi
What's a particular topic/problem in crypto you've liked to geek out on the past couple weeks?
1
Crypto Bobby
@NeilDeramchi It sounds lame but the regulation in the industry is pretty fascinating to me. Specifically the balancing act countries are trying to play where they're trying to "welcome" innovation, but also prevent scams and get their cut of revenue. It's been really interesting to see some lawmakers in the US welcome blockchain/crypto with open arms, while others have dismissed it as basically nothing but digital money to buy drugs and finance terrorism.
2
Neil Deramchi

@crypto_bobby yayy glad i'm not the only one. I'd say regulation and then decentralized exchanges + tokenized securities are fire to geek out on right now
1
Crypto Bobby
@NeilDeramchi Ahh, I totally forgot about tokenized securities. I've had a number of conversations recently with people in that space and I think it's going to blow up big time. I think the infrastructure is just getting ready for prime time right now, but once that's launch, the security token market will be very, very large.

What is your view about market prediction product in the stock market like augur, gnosis, cindicator and others?
0
Crypto Bobby
@Sergio-Duclona Its an area I haven't done that much research into yet, as I think it's still so early on. Augur has been in development for a number of years, and I'm hoping the product is strong when released. I need to dive further into Gnosis and Cindicator

Erik Torenberg
What's something you believe that other people disagree with you on about the space?
0
Crypto Bobby
@eriktorenberg I think the cryptocurrency investing (specifically ICOs) is moving away from the little guys and towards institutional investment and there isn't much regular folks can do about it until the government provides real regulatory clarity.
1
Erik Torenberg
can you say more about where you want regulation to go?
0
Crypto Bobby
@eriktorenberg I don't really want to see much of any regulation, but I know it's coming regardless. My hope is that the US (I'm based in NYC), doesn't drop the hammer and completely shut off all innovation like China did. If that happens, all the talent and companies will just end up moving abroad.

I think we'll see more and more KYC/AML requirements and prosecution against blatant scams
1
Erik Torenberg
What is your current investment advice?

@eriktorenberg *Not a registered financial adviser disclaimer* nice try boyyyy

blocktrain
What advice would you give to an aspiring crypto youtuber? You and Data Dash are the biggest out there!
0
Crypto Bobby
@realblocktrain I get asked that a decent amount actually.. I think just be yourself. People try to be someone else and anyone watching can sense that in five seconds.

I think (hope) I resonate with people because I don't try to act like I'm some genius expert. I'm a regular dude who loves this industry, but also loves to shoot the shit, drink a beer and hang out talking about this.

Figure out how you are and how you're unique, and just roll with it. if the quality is there and you hustle, YouTube's algo will take you far.
2
blocktrain
@crypto_bobby Thanks for the answer! I'll keep that in mind.
0
Crypto Bobby
@realblocktrain Absolutely, another key is to keep grinding.. Sometimes you'll have a video that crushes it, and you feel like every single video from then on will do the same. Then viewership falls off a map and brings you down, you just have to push through that sometimes.

Why do you hate tron ? Even when they are launching their main test net and with these wonderful partnerships .
0
Crypto Bobby
@Melvin-Ab They're launching their "main" testnet lol.... Because they pump up the price and plagarism a whitepaper. If Tron can prove me wrong, great, that's good for the industry. But I think they basically have an army of shills with no technical knowledge. But in today's world, that's enough to just a nearly $3 Billion market cap.
1
Melvin Ab
Tron or ripple ? Reason too
0
Crypto Bobby
@Melvin-Ab Investment wise? I'm not a fan of either. But Ripple is a significantly more seasoned and enterprise ready executive team.

When do you think the binance coin burn will be and what are your thoughts on BNB/binance moving forward?
0
Crypto Bobby
@MakeItClancy No idea when the Binance coin burn will be, and don't pay too much attention to price of BNB quite frankly. I heard a comparison recently that buying BNB was a good way to gauge and capture the value of the entire altcoin market, which is somewhat interesting. Basically treating the BNB token as a crypto market ETF of sorts.

Which coin or token do you have the most in your portfolio currently ?

@Melvin-Ab Bitcoin is my largest holding
0
Melvin Ab
Where do you see the price of bitcoin by the end of Q2 ?

Crypto Bobby
@Melvin-Ab I'll say $7,000, just a guess tho

@Melvin-Ab Thanks Melvin, appreciate the questions my dude!

Thoughts on CELCIUS??
0
Crypto Bobby
@David-Martinez loaning out your crypto to get a return is definitely interesting, but you're giving away control of your crypto to a 3rd party, which somewhat goes against the ethos of decentralization

Elavenil
Hey CB, Love your videos! I hate to see few high market cap coins get hard forked (BCash, Bitcoin Private, Monero V. ZClassic.etc) , and i can understand the purpose is to scaling the network, but is it really worth to invest in these coins??

Sergio Duclona
Let's say gifto team wants to appear on your show, how should they proceed?
I enjoy your show and will to help you have some project to talk on your show
0
Crypto Bobby
@Sergio-Duclona I'm usually pretty selective when it comes to interviewing projects on the channel. Either it's something I'm incredibly interested in personally, and I'm conducting the interview because I'm a selfish bastard, or because the entire community is begging for it. Unless it's something that people would be truly excited for, I usually avoid it
