This is using the same kind of buzzwords ( inclusion, diverse ) from the cult of feeling that gave us things like the toxic tech codes of conduct tyranny, thought crimes, hate facts and purges from left wing tech platforms.
It is all about inclusion for anyone that agrees with ( and more importantly obeys ) them and exclusion for those who do not toe their authoritarian line. Sure, they can associate with and provide a platform for whom they want with their property, and the broader free-er market can judge them for it.
No complaints with Mr. Breitman for attending, he probably does not give as much of a shit about these kinds of things and primarily wants to educate others about the tech and advance Tezos. It looks like web3 has a pretty noble mission and I acknowledge that the author of that article may not reflect the broader group.
The text was written by some of my colleagues. I don't agree with them 100% on their stance, and in honesty I would have written it differently, but I do believe that the conference will be great regardless of any differences on outlook. I know they and I share a passion for the technology, but we have different perspectives on life.
There are a number of people presenting who have opposing views and it is worth having healthy discussion too. I know Arthur and Gavin Wood are both strong proponents of on-chain governance, as am I, while Vlad Zamfir is at the opposite end of the spectrum. I find myself strongly in opposition to Vlad's thoughts on governance, but I wouldn't be in a rush to block from presenting.
As you suggest, there is a broad group of people who will be interested in such an event.
Hundreds of attendees registered.
