this is the best idea i’ve seen from @getongab in a while. appealing to maximalists with lightning integration makes sense considering their ideological intersection.. but in the long run echo chambers keep getting stronger in the name of ‘free speech’. https://t.co/yNwbezGngf
>No, its for freedom of speech.
But it does have a remarkable number of "bad words/racists" as you put it, and some of the users are pretty violent. And it seems like this is not accidental: the creators of it openly support this kind of visitors. Just a curious question: what kind of content is available there that can not be posted on a different platform, e.g. even a self-moderated 18+ sub-reddit?
How is anyone silenced when hannity and rush have huge platforms for just that in the MSM?
They are the literal the definition of MSM.
If an ai bot can't tell the difference between conservative and racist, maybe they're much too alike for comfort.
Maybe the ai is polluted by trolls who are attempting to skew these results.
Regardless, with out the nuanced understanding of "conservative" you have, it is very hard to find where one starts and the other ends.
There is a difference between conservative views and hate speech, I hope. Also, anyone who wants to have their own version of Twitter can self-host Mastodon, which was literally built for that. The only thing that it explicitly bans is Nazi content, but the instance owner is the one who ultimately enforces any rules.
There is a problem with "hate speech" though. Who defines it? What if not everyone agrees? Is it no longer hate speech? Inconvenient facts can be considered hate speech to some, and some people consider anything criticizing their political views to be hate speech.
Mastodon seems like a cool idea.
I can't speak for BAT, though I can say that Bitcoin is too slow as a currency in certain situations where you want an near instant confirmation. Imagine if you wanted to pay five cents to read an article... the page would give a dialog asking for payment, you would click ok and get a cookie once your payment is confirmed. With Bitcoin, that first confirm takes 10 minutes, and the fee is too high for small payments.
Vano is a plugin (beta) that works with Chrome/FF and uses Nano. They have working examples. It's pretty cool tech.
I think they are taking out the BAT specific parts and just going for the Privacy/Ad blocking features. For that, Brave is a great starting point.
I do wonder how far the Lightning Network will take them for their usecase. It will be a long time until they have an actual working product.
In any case, I would love to see a browser with built-in BTC wallet. Let's get that on the market and wait for Brave to incorporate that part as well!
All is fair in an Open Source world of course.
