I have been thinking about doing this myself for a while tbh. If only I had the time. Keybase is also slowly phasing out PGP and for this reason will not support PGP-enabled hardware wallets.

Except these greedy projects have the funding to pay people to work on these open source projects while Gab doesn't have the resource nor the expertise to be dedicated to one project. It's like trying to play 3 different instruments while you haven't even master one yet. How about Gab really succeed at one thing first before trying to do them all..which is basically the point of Bitcoin vs other altcoins that try to do everything and really didn't offer anything.
Good, all the greedy projects in the space trying to make money off of every use case possible for Bitcoin should have developed on the Bitcoin blockchain directly instead. I hope projects like this bring so much utility to Bitcoin that it kills any motivation of creating more useless and centralized alts.
"As for Gab’s refined mission, Torba is explicit and unapologetic about his company’s designs: 'Our new company strategy is pretty simple: fork open source projects, expand our team to the tune of hundreds of new engineers instantly by doing so, remove shitcoins from said projects, and add free speech money: bitcoin.'”
Funny shit right here. This asshat lacks any creativity so he runs around attempting to create businesses using other peoples hard work and ingenuity. Which anyone and everyone can do with an open source project. Looks like major players saw through his bullshit and couldn't throw him to the curb fast enough.
In late 2016, Gab’s CEO was booted from the Y Combinator alumni network, whichTorba blamed squarely on Altman, saying at the time that Altman had been looking for “any way to purge” him from their ranks.
Reading his comments in the article you posted, and the one below, would lead me to believe there was more to it than free speech and white supremacy. Sounds like he found a way to make some easy money by piggybacking off others work and jumping on the Trump/Free Speech bandwagon for publicity. He doesn't sound very professional. I'm all for free speech, but I don't think I would want to be associated with him in a professional organization. Does the forked Brave browser exist yet, or is that still in the works? I have seen it mentioned a few times, including this article, but when I do some searches for the actual browser I only find information about the extension.
Segwit on LTC before BTC, BCH just implemented the schnorr BIP, confidential transactions in elements/liquid/GRIN whoever else has them, and GRIN has also implemented dandelion and mimblewimble. There aren't many good ideas in the altcoin space that don't start in the Bitcoin space, and we get to use the altcoins as a testing ground for the viability of those ideas.
All of those things are examples of ideas that begun in the Bitcoin community but were implemented by altcoins and layers first. I expect them all to mature and be adopted by Bitcoin and layers on top of it.
