This kind of long term commitment really does hit home the fact that we are in such early days. This is basic infrastructure to support blockchains. It's going to take a lot more of this kind of thinking to support the potential for these projects.

My bet is that this is to support scaling (not mining), in particular hardware optimised nodes & hopefully dedicated ZKSNARK logic.
ZKSNARKs would offer a ~24x for ETH transactions and ~50x for ERC20 transfers performance benefit on top of any other scaling solutions. E.G if we get 100 shards then could get 5000x the current speeds with both.
ZKSNARKs are currently too slow to use for complex transactions but dedicated hardware could make them viable.
Yeah there is so much potential here, it will take some time still though.

This doesn't necessarily point to mining. They may be developing a datacenter for general ethereum nodes. Kind of like Infura but for enterprise
