Joe is a piece of shit. His "larger than life personality" is a distraction from how badly he treated those animals. The babies being pulled away from their laboring tiger mama was upsetting. Then to see him bitching about the newborn cubs crying and waking him up just infuriated me.
It was disturbing to say the least. I think the filmmaker could have done more to make animal cruelty a focal point of Tiger King. Instead it was a documentary about a bunch of messed up people whose lives are one big dumpster fire. The animal suffering was apparent, but when every 6 seconds you have Joe stealing the spotlight, you can almost look past it and forget for a moment that there are animals in the background who deserve so much better.
Right, and I'm getting killed on some other thread for my opinion. I thought people were smarter than this. No one can handle the sarah mclachlan dog commercials.. But what joe did to his animals is fine..cuz he's funny.
It's hard to comprehend how some people are either desensitized or can look the other way without it haunting them. I actually lost sleep over the animal cruelty part, especially when I started reading more about it online. For me, regardless if the animal is a dog or a tiger, if it's being abused I am upset and wondering what I can do to help them.
I know!! What the actual fuck?? And Carole, she was vilified. But she's running an actual sanctuary. Whether she killed her husband 35 years ago or not, I agree with the big cat law. The law is not about barring other people from having sanctuaries. Joe could have gone in that direction, except he became self important and greedy. Joe wasn't able to prove that she was abusing her cats. She is not shooting them when they are no longer profitable. She is trying to feed them. They can't go back to the wild. These cats need to go somewhere!! I'm kinda mad at netflix for jeapordizing the protection of these cats. Everyone is so over the moon with Joe now, I'm afraid nothing will be done to help those animals.
Those chimps who sat in cages next to eachother for years.. man... I'm going to cry right now thinking about it.
I drove to the store this evening and I saw foxes in the street.. I never see foxes in the street. We often forget who the land really belongs to. Now that people are staying inside , the animals are back to claim it.
Can you imagine how great it must be to be a zookeeper for these things. You get to spend years getting harder and harder before the main event happens and you get to get off watching two bears fuck. Lucky bastards.
“And let me ask you this: the two pandas in the zoo. Do you care if they fuck? I don't. Why don't they stop telling me on the news the pandas didn't fuck again this year? I'm not concerned. I have no emotional stake in panda fucking, all right? If they want to, they will; if not, they'll watch "The Price is Right". Probably the only reason they're not doing it on time is 'cause some jackoff from the environmental movement has moved into the cage with them. Could you get a hard-on if some guy in a green t-shirt with a stopwatch was taking your girlfriend's rectal temperature? Leave these creatures alone!” — George Carlin
