Every time I hear about "X day" or "international Y day" my first thought always is according to who?... If Bat Conservation International can make up a holiday, then literally anyone can make up a holiday. They just don't mean anything anymore.
As far as I understand, the idea is that the virus was a bat virus before and jumped to humans, probably through some other animal (maybe a Pangolin), which was present at a wet market.
>Most of the initial cases occurred in people who worked at or visited the Huanan seafood market in Wuhan, China, where a variety of wild animals were sold.
>To learn more about the virus' origins, the researchers compared the 2019-nCoV genetic sequence with those in a library of viral sequences, and found that the most closely related [viruses](https://www.livescience.com/53272-what-is-a-virus.html) were two coronaviruses that originated in bats; both of those coronaviruses shared 88% of their genetic sequence with that of 2019-nCoV. (When compared with two other coronaviruses known to infect people — SARS and [MERS](https://www.livescience.com/45566-mers-faq.html) — 2019-nCoV shared about 79% of its genetic sequence with SARS and 50% with MERS.)
>Based on these results, the authors said the 2019-nCoV likely originated in bats. However, no bats were sold at the Huanan seafood market, which suggests that another yet-to-be-identified animal acted as a steppingstone of sorts to transmit the virus to humans.
>"It seems likely that another animal host is acting as an intermediate host between bats and humans," said study co-lead author Guizhen Wu, of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
One expert suggests that continuing encroachment on habitats and contact with new populations of animals will lead to more novel viruses jumping to humans in the future ([https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fqw-9yMV0sI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fqw-9yMV0sI)), and it really doesn't seem to me like bringing a bunch of wild animals together in a human city is a great idea.
More and more evidence every day suggests that covid-19 actually came from a lab in Wuhan where bats were being studied, and wasn’t properly contained. There’s also reports that to cover it up, the Chinese government planted infected bats in the street markets to make any infection seem coincidental
Thanks for everything bats, you have only led to profits for the human race and have never caused any outbreak nor killed anyone unlike those peskey pigs and cows. You also taste better than those animals
