This isn't just the coronavirus. I live in New England, and I can confirm that flu season's been really bad this year. I know a lot of people that were hit hard by it in December. A few friends, several members of my family, the woman running our weekly D&D campaign... it really beat the crap out of all of them. It was brutal.
It's possible some of these cases are coronavirus, and they just don't know it yet. But the vast majority of these cases really are just the flu. (For now.)
I'm waiting for confirmation before I jump to conclusions. If some of these cases really are coronavirus, we'll know when the major symptoms reveal themselves.
In the meantime, remember to wash your hands and avoid crowded places if possible. Even if it is just the flu, you still don't want to get it. Trust me on this.
Yup, been a particularly nasty year for seasonal flu around here. Most people where I work have had it or are sick and just about my whole home has had it too. Just the way it is. Now we’re getting concerned with the RI case announced today. Be a couple more weeks before we start to understand the impact of that and the way they are handling it. Folks, common sense, wash tour hands lots and don’t touch your face!
I think typically a lot of people try to get in with their PCP or Urgent Care / Walk-in because of Tamiflu. Being able to shave a few days off of the Flu is pretty damn nice...if you have the means to do so.
Tamiflu isn't covered by many health insurance plans. My boss said it was two or three hundred bucks to get it for his son (he opted not to).
Also, getting in to see my PCP is not going to happen within a day or two of getting flu like symptoms. Going to urgent-care isn't worth the pain in the ass that going to urgent care usually is, and I don't recall ever even being prescribed tamiflu when I've tried because of being particularly sick.
Yes. They are testing for flu in many cases, but are they testing for any other viral illnesses, or just assuming the influenza A/B is the only culprit here?
My daughter’s been sick three times this season and not one time has she been tested for anything other than strep (even after requesting further testing, I was told it was unnecessary and to just treat the symptoms of her asthma exacerbations).
Louisiana here. My daughter came down with the flu three days ago and I just tested positive for it yesterday. They are already running news stories on the local news about the high number of flu cases popping up. Local pharmacys are running off the flu medication.
