NGRI isn't necessarily a sweet deal. You aren't "serving your time" but are getting treatment. You need to convince the docs and judge that you are stable and don't pose a risk if released. Even then, you may be part of an extended transitional program that could slow progress toward a normal life (or provide needed scaffolding).
Yeah but he won't have a felony that he will carry for the rest of his life. So sure he'll be in a padded room for years but once he is out he can live a reasonably normal life barring his underlying mental condition.
The Army doesn’t med board soldiers for mental illness....more than likely he will get a Chapter 5-13.
...and a 100% disability rating for a mental illness is quite difficult to obtain. Plus if he is only diagnosed with a personality disorder he won’t get anything. The VA doesn’t give disability for personality disorders or developmental disorders.
Funny story; I live half the time down that way and half the time in Richmond. When this happened I crashed and fell asleep for 8 hours. Everyone who knew me thought I did it for some reason and freaked out.
