RT @NAChristakis: Suddenly, Public Health Officials Say Social Justice Matters More Than Social Distance.
The inconsistency here is unsound from an infectious disease point of view, and very damaging to field of public health. (FWIW, recent protests in HK were done well.) https://t.co/9VgdZWNGPN
Guess we’ll see if the combination of masks & outdoors is enough to limit the spike. We’re already seeing a Spike from Memorial Day / previous lockdown protests but those activities largely saw people leaving the masks at home. The current protests at least from what I’ve seen have the vast majority of people wearing masks. Will be interesting to see how the stats play out.
Also there is plenty of concern about the current protests causing a spike, it’s not entirely accurate to take the opinions of some individual medical professionals and say the entire criticism of previous protesters have reversed course - many medical professionals and organizations including Fauci are worried about the potential for spread from these protests.
>Spike from Memorial Day / previous lockdown protests but those activities largely saw people leaving the masks at home.
In my area, people weren't really wearing masks anyways, so I'm not sure how you could tell the difference between a protester and someone who has just been carrying on like there is not a pandemic?
Yeah that would be hard to tell. My area is actually by far a majority of mask wearers but I live right on the edge of a decent sized city. It’s just sort of a clusterfuck in general trying to map out this thing.
What makes me sad is that we have the technology to keep track and to really be on top of this, and because of the purposeful LACK of coordination, guidance and leadership from the FEDS, it is a cluster.
In general, be courteous to others. Debate/discuss/argue the merits of ideas, don't attack people. Personal insults, shill or troll accusations, hate speech, any advocating or wishing death/physical harm, and other rule violations can result in a permanent ban.

Did you say the same thing about the protesters a few weeks ago who were out protesting the shutdown?
> When two important issues clash, sometimes people have to decide which is more important to them personally.
That seems like a good way to let your emotion trump your ability to think logically about what is best for yourself/people.
I'm actually okay with people protesting, since they're more likely to get coronavirus. and none of my friends are dumb enough to go to protests.
Let me word it this way: for many of these people they will be killed by a corrupt system or by a virus and they're choosing which they want to fight first.
It's called a "no win" situation for many people, and choosing their battle is not something I will fault them for. Protesting the shutdown was not choosing which threat had priority, it was choosing to side with Trump cronies or health officials.
You do realize the risk of being killed by police is about 100x - 1000x less than the risk of being killed by basically anyone else, right? (whether you're white or black)
For example, [shootings and murders in Chicago have increased](https://chicago.suntimes.com/crime/2020/6/6/21282353/chicago-crime-statistics-may-2020-overall-down-shootings-murders-up-unrest-protests-gun-violence), but no one is protesting that. And out of all of those 245 murders, 0% were committed by police.
Edit: funny how you think an "appeal to emotion" is tolerated on a subreddit about skeptics.
> I love how the article you cited admits that the source is the very people under scrutiny right now.
Huh?? What the hell are you talking about?? How do "love" that 245 black people have been murdered in Chicago??
Edit: Or, you could just explain what you mean... Oh wait, *you* don't even know what you're talking about!
