Bitcoins are generated by miners finding new blocks. A block is currently found on average every 10 minutes. Every 4 years the amount of Bitcoins that come with a new block are dropped by 50% every four years. It started out as 50/block and is currently 25 per block, tomorrow it will be 12.5 bitcoins per new block.
A lot of people speculate how this will impact price but I dont think anyone really knows. There is not really any examples of when a supply of something that was truly inelastic was known in advance. What you can know is that after tomorrow, bitcoins will be harder to generate.
They won't be harder to generate - just the reward for mining them will be less. So there is a chance miners will drop out of the pool, which could bring on slower transaction confirmations and short term panic.
Read the info on the linked website.
What it means for the bitcoins in your wallet: Price could rise. Price could drop. Price could stay the same. So... the same as any other day :-)
But more than a normal day, a lot of people seem to have big expectations for tomorrow and the coming days/weeks/months (either up or down).
Beautiful site, but one nit to pick. The second screen, under the heading "total number of bitcoins" lists a quickly incrementing value. AFAIK, that's not what's happening. Money is created in chunks with each block. So how is this value computed on the site?
Hope someone is making a video of all those steps... and hope that the rocket really takes off (both because it would be an anti-climax if it wouldn't and it would mean that we're really on the way to the moon!)

Be prepared for the price to go down in the short-term - it tends to happen immediately following block reward reductions with other crypto-currencies, and there is no reason to hope to against the trend. However, I do expect price to pop back up short thereafter once the reality of the new level of scarcity starts to take root.
We have daily swings from 680 to 615 anyway. I get what you're saying though. I guess that we will see a gradual increase to 900 within the month, as the effect of the halvening takes hold and segwit comes online.
Nope. The halvening was 1.0 probability of happening on a calendar day.
In a group of Bitcoin redditors, say 20,000 people, there are around 55 people with a birthday on any given day of the year.
So it's not at all excptional that these three things coincide.
"Somebody on the Internt is wrong!" :)
Your method is the one if we said, ok, here is a date, July 8. Then from a crowd, we pick one person and ask them their birthday, and voila, it's July 8, a one in 365.25 chance! Then we did it again with the same result, another one in 365 result derived independently.
But the halvening was going to fall on many Bitcoin Redditors birthday regardless of the day. The birthday problem is not really relevant only because it's excessive unnecesary to evoke it. The likelihood of two Bitcoin redditors having a birthday on the halvening is essentially about as likely as you not guessing the private key of one of my Bitcoin holding addresses. It's astronomically high. Much greater than 99.9999999%. I think it is 1 - (364/365)^x, where x is half the number of Bitcoin redditors.

Which is what happened. The probability of a birthday on the halvening is 1/365. The probability of yet another birthday on the halvening is 1/365. Together, 1/365^2 .

Yeah, of course. Because there are many redditors.
I'm still not seeing where you disagree with me.
How am I trolling exactly? I have been crying out loud for the team to take action for the past 27 days but I have been just ignored or called a troll. I have lost $12k in this, and looks like I'm gonna lose even more.
Where's the white paper ? Ha? It's been one goddamn week.
The Lisk team is completely incompetent other than some casual advertising. It's gonna be trading lower than Waves in a week.
I'm expecting you to come up with some really good arguments apart from your usual troll/fudder/etc.
I'm a bot, *bleep*, *bloop*. Someone has linked to this thread from another place on reddit:

well I mean let's face it, this whole cryptoworld is still the wild wild west, I can afford to bitch and whine about things like a teenager.
I'll be the first cheering like a little kid when this thing starts moving UP! though
I really hope to see more of my rants on lisk on buttcoin, once one
starts making it into the first page of buttcoin it means the currency has 'made' it. Or even on DarknetMarkets, that would be splendid.
If I wanted to invest my money I would put it in the stock market, this is like a casino. At least it has been so far. Anyhow, my replies are getting delayed because I've been downvoted so many times
it only let's me post once every 10 minutes.
Anyhow, hope I become a buttcoin favorite.
