There is more to it than the vote count:
* Do the votes correspond to real people?
* Were the votes cast free of coercion?
* Are the votes linkable to the people who voted? (If they are, that can lead to coercion or vote buying).
Online voting is absolutely retarded. Even more if it involves a blockchain. You want to keep voting as simple as possible, paper and pen so when something goes wrong your entire population has the means to check on upon it. Worse case scenario you storm the places where they keep the votes and have a bunch of volunteer by hand start counting all the votes.
Electronic voting, you have to trust the magic machine and nobody knows what's going on inside of them. Online voting is even worse, now hackers all over the world could mess with it.
And putting votes on a blockchain, ridiculous.
We live in a moment in history where technology grants us immediacy and a proper mathematical count. Why do we have to wait for votes to “come in”. Our voting machines are outdated and look like they could transport us to another dimension. They are vintage and have been shown to be not be tamper proof.
There are safeguard and checks and balances just like any other system with blockchain. A good blockchain is no different than a great system that is viewable in real time by all people. So we could all check it out, yes including you.
You can vote in person and it still be on a blockchain. You can vote online and it still be on a blockchain. You wanna mail it in, fine the blockchain will house your vote. All blockchain is is a ledger that can’t be tampered with. Verifiable info. No smudged dots, no throwing away paper ballots cause this mayor or that guy got his buddies to root and root for said candidate.
I implore you to do some research and maybe you’ll see how technology can help us so that we the people have visibility to the shenanigans of our politicians.
The current system is prehistoric and needs updated.
Computers are inherently insecure. There is no reasonable way to make sure they are doing what they are supposed to be doing.
The AMC advantage with a "Harvard Architecture" (Read-only program code) was reverse-engineered and compromised (using return-oriented programing) to allow vote manipulation.
And that machine was a lot simpler and more secure than modern machines.
