The formidable logistical challenges while relying on our current tech makes any notion of mining the moon prohibitively expensive. As someone else mentioned we need to tackle our country's decaying infrastructure before we spend our resources on "pie in the sky" lunar lunacy.
It's an interesting question, and one we can be sure that trump never considered.
