The only reason they are against it according to the article is because they believe the legislature has more important business it should be addressing currently. Like the economic crisis going on due to COVID. Crap title.
This is the regulator (the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency) doing this, not the legislature. These legislators are wasting their time attacking this regulator instead of focusing on more important things.
And I strongly suspect that they're attacking crypto because crypto reduces the power of Big Gov types over the private sector.
The private sector is hurting bad from the lockdowns, and to try to obstruct a measure to give the private sector more financial tools is inexcusable.
So you misread the article.
The OCC is not part of the legislature. The Members of Congress diverting their attention from COVID, to disrupting financial innovation and private sector initiatives, *ARE* part of the legislature.
The criticism you levied against the OCC applies 100% to these left-wing Members of Congress.
What stupidity, their critique is so off the mark it's like they have no idea what crypto even is or you know could do to benefit Americans during pandemic. Would be a whole lot easier for people to get stimulus money with it and it's not covered in viruses and handled during a pandemic.
