RT @digiphile: Oil, gas, & mineral companies are the wealthiest corporations on the planet. This @whitehouse wants to bail them out because a billionaire has access to Trump? BS.
US needs free testing & paid leave, now. Or even to try extending the public an option to use Medicare or Medicaid. https://t.co/InLQZdv84n
So companies pursuing uneconomical resources are bitching and moaning that they're feeling the hurt? Too bad - how many American families end up feeling the hurt when they get bankrupted by medical debt, loss of employment, or any number of things.
I have some debt from malinvestments! Where's my bailout?
It speaks volumes about how they are swift to act when they need to save shale companies from financial disasters. If it had was a natural disaster affecting a city or territory populated by minorities, they'd be sitting and arguing how a relief package would blow a dent on the national budget. It's true: Some people are more equal than others, and since companies are considered "people"; they are more than the needy with flesh and bones.
This is the answer I've been looking for. For years I have been a rube and paid taxes every year as well as paying sales tax on just about everything I buy. I've actually been paying off my credit cards too. Why didn't I think of just not doing that?
We've all been there, doing stupid shit because it's just expected of you.
Do you want to affect change in the world in some way? Well people have been trying to do it by voting for decades. It has done very little. Now we are at a point where we need large changes very quickly. How exactly do we do this? By voting for the geriatric lifelong politician? Or is your preferred poison geriatric "businessman"? We die just the same either way.
Sure if just one people does not pay these things, something bad will happen to them eventually. It does take a while before people start to chase you about debt/taxes. They don't hunt you down as soon as you stop paying. And if enough people go on strike, and do not pay the government to aid these demonstrably evil companies for the SERVICE of murdering us, then they may listen. If there is not a large group that does this, it's already beginning to unravel, I doubt they will have the time to chase after one lone rube who had had enough.
The Republican Party will never allow such a thing!
Just fucking kidding! Baldfaced hypocrisy, thy name is GOP.
Note: Do your remember during the Obama administration, when every single Republican in Washington cried and whined daily, for eight straight agonizing years, about the existential menace of the growing Federal deficit? I do, because I wanted to do violence to them all, knowing to a 100% certainty, that as soon they had one of their own in the Oval Office, they would instantly, shut the fuck up.
And they did. We don't here a peep these days from those treacherous runts about being 1 trillion dollars over budget every year. Do we?
Noam is correct, the GOP is the evilest organization that ever existed, and yes, I am including all the great evil organizations known throughout history, including those that comprised the infamous 3rd Reich trio, the Gestapo, the SS, and the Einsatzgruppen.
>the GOP is the evilest organization that ever existed
That is wrong because GOP is not the whole of US government. If you include the dems yes that works.
Speaking of Obama, do you remember all the democrats complaining about the wars in the middle east that suddenly got quiet when Obama increased from three to six wars and killed thousands of people with drone strikes? Or what about when he opened the most federal land for oil and gas exploration? I could go on...
The point is save your righteous anger - you can be easily manipulated with base emotions. Soon they'll convince you to vote for Biden because it's the devil you know.
Instead forget about parties and focus on people. I don't see any difference between Hillary or Biden or Bloomberg or the republicans. If you write down their policies, they are identical. But somehow magically they are good because they are on "our" team?
I just wish Bernie would be more forceful in his speeches - he lived a long life and they won't let him in anyway, what does he have to lose?
Tax cuts for the rich!
Isn't that the GOP's answer to everything?
Seriously, they will do what they stand diametrically against, they will deficit spend by way of fiscal stimulus, because really, the Republican Party doesn't actually stand for anything, except greed, power, and hatred of the other.
Called it. But yea, they have several avenues of doing this. The first is by legislation; the second by tariffs on foreign oil - to artificially inflate the price of oil to make shale look competitive and finally, through the declaration of a national emergency on the grounds that "energy Independence" is a matter of national security.
I don't understand why the White House doesn't just slap a tariff on foreign oil as long as the price is above $40. That would actually be a reasonable response to a price war caused by Russia that would keep shale oil companies floating for longer. Plus, the added revenue could be used for further stimulus.
I think you mean as long as it's below $40. That amounts to the same as he's proposing, which is that some corporations' losses be socialized. Such tariff would increase gas and other prices. At least the tariff would be an executive order so we could all be forced to pay for it without Congress' approval.
The increase in gas price from the tariff would be offset by the decline in oil price, so American consumers shouldn't see a difference in the price of gas from what they saw last week (in theory). So I think everyone would win except for Russia, who is bound to lose a price war against Saudi Arabia in the long term.
The increase in gas price from the tariff socializes the losses of some corporations. The consumers should benefit from the price war. I might be fine with backstopping their losses when their profits are socialized too.
