I once witnessed a Chinese woman at an airport in NZ while moving forward in line to board the aircraft. She coughed and hacked and gagged and finally spit a huge green wad of phlegm into here bare hand. Then casually as she passed the flight attendant checking boarding passes she schlooped the goopy green chunk off her hand and onto the vertical surface of the kiosk.
I used to work at a tourist destination in Hawaii where the lines would get pretty long. I’ve see so many snot rockets blown, uncovered coughing, nails trimmed and sneezing from Chinese tourists waiting in line that it’s hard to view China as anything but a Petri dish.
So the snot rocket thing is par? I thought they where doing it at my feet in Shanghai bc I was some tall white dude in their country... They seemed to go out of their way to exit the building and blast one at my feet about once a day.
So my colleague (we're both bio-technologists) and I have both been following the news coming out of China (Black plague, protests etc.). I've just shown him this article and his first though was that it might be a type of bioweapon being used.
For background, we're South African, and the bioweapon program our country ran in the 80's was geared mostly for dealing with protests ( Project Coast ).
I was looking and poking around, and I noticed that one of the researchers that worked on the SARS virus (ZL Shi) was actually working in Wuhan at the time (and may still continue to)... I thought that was a creepy coincidence.
It’s hardly at the “global pandemic” stage that humanity so dearly needs to clear out most of its population. Sure, it’s great for bombastic headlines, but until it starts having a 60+% fatality rate and almost 100% transmission success, it’s not important enough for me to celebrate. Thanos is just gonna have to do better than this.
So is this like Chernobyl where the commies cover up everything and then just wait until shit completely blows up? I thought China was downplaying the whole thing and only saying there were a few reported cases.
Here we go again. The world is just teeming with bad shit. My landlord got a bad bladder infection that's immune to all the antibiotics so far. I don't know if this will kill him, I kind of like the guy. We get more than a few people to and from China.
I don‘t know about viral diseases, but India is probably the worst breeding ground for all kinds of multi drug resistant bacterias. Whenever we repatriate a patient from an Indian hospital, they get placed in isolation first, even if they‘ve been treated for a stroke or broken ankle and nothing infectious.
It's actually way worse in India, it just doesnt get as much attention because people care about China more. If you look at the Wikipedia for List of Epidemics you can see how many Indian entries there are: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_epidemics
It was first speculated to may have been a zootonic virus which WHO is still analysing to pinpoint the actual resorvoir. Since this is a new strain, people are more on high alert than having the common flu. But back in 1918 the flu pandemic killed millions of people worlwide. So in a great sense of way, it is reasonable to be concerned and inform the public. (Please correct me if I am wrong).
> the people are extremely welcoming, intelligent and friendly.
Hongcouver resident here, for the most part you are correct. It’s the _political structure_ of China - and its enforcement arms - which has become full-blown dictatorial, autocratic, kleptocratic, and fascist.
